The Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice has commissioned photographer Sherry Rubel to develop a photo exhibition and book with their advisory board members, curated by Terri Lyne Carrington which addresses the images and narrative of women playing jazz. Through the book, Shifting the Narrative: photo essays of women instrumentalists, we will seek to contribute to the corrective work of reshaping the way jazz is perceived and presented.

...is a photo-journalism project documenting the free jazz, post-punk and avant garde community of music, literary, visual and theatrical artists within outsider NYC. As An Alien in a Land of Promise is the latest work by poet Hank Kalet. Based on more than a year of reporting and research, the book is a hybrid work of journalism and poetry, with breathtaking photos by Sherry Rubel, that tells the story of the men and women who lived in the now-defunct Tent City in Lakewood, NJ.
